Gary Boyd is currently in police custody.

Police had launched an appeal following four raids which took place within 20 minutes of each other in the Highfield Road area on Monday, May 7.

A member of the public suffered serious facial injuries as he grappled with a man with a knife during one of the robberies, said police.

The first alleged robbery happened at B&M Bargains around 5pm, then Tesco Express, followed by two newsagents in Highfield Road.

On each occasion the intruder made demands for money.
