Police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a serious sexual assault on a schoolgirl in St Annes.

Detectives arrested the teenager on Saturday morning after a public appeal for information on Friday afternoon.

Police had circulated a photograph of a man they wanted to speak over the attack on a 14-year-old girl.

The alleged attack happened on January at a house in All Saints Road, St Annes.

A spokesman for Lancashire police said: "Further to our appeal for help identifying a man we wanted to speak to in connection with a report of a serious sexual assault in St Annes, we can now confirm an 18-year-old man has been arrested as part of our investigation.

"Thank you to everybody who shared and supported our appeal."
