Lytham trader accused of selling thousands of pounds of fake branded motoring badges

A trader is facing allegations that he supplied thousands of counterfeit car badges to motorists and businesses across Lancashire, the UK and Europe.

Lancashire Trading Standards officers, working with car manufacturers, launched an investigation in 2018 after a complaint from Jaguar Land Rover about suspected counterfeit Land Rover and Range Rover badges being sold on e-Bay and Amazon.

Following a raid at business premises in the Snowden Road area of Lytham St Annes, Matthew Paul Shlusar, Sadlers Row, Lytham St Anne’s, was summonsed to Blackpool Magistrates’ Court accused of 13 charges connected with the sale of bogus branded car badges, with brands including Range Rover, Volkswagen, BMW, Alpina, Overfinch, Audi and Ford.

The case was committed to Preston crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The 37-year-old also denies three charges of money laundering.

They relate to alleged proceeds from eBay sales totalling £280,237.40 and £36,425.05 and £70,977.33 of Amazon sales.

He has pleaded not guilty to all 16 charges and is expected to face a trial in October 2021.
