Lytham firm in court on One Direction fake goods charges

A Lytham company and its directors accused of offences involving having fake designer goods for sale has had the first hearing of the case before a magistrates’ court.

The firm is alleged to have possessed pirate items among which were mugs, bracelets, key-rings, and coasters featuring the logos of football clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea and of groups such as One Direction.

Bowtique Birkenhead Limited, of Preston Road, Lytham, faces 35 offences of possessing goods with false trademarks for sale at the Pyramid Plaza Shopping Court, Central Promenade, Blackpool.

Directors David Halliday, 28, and Alice Hartley, 26, both of Admiral Point, Queens Promenade, Blackpool, each face 35 offences of contravening rules entitling a person to be registered as a trademark agent.

Halliday also faces two charges of possessing goods with false trademarks for sale, namely 16 bracelets marked with the name of the group One Direction and six coasters marked with singer Bob Marley’s name.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place in June last year.

The company and the directors asked for trial at crown court.

The case was adjourned for hearing on June 24 at Preston Crown Court by Blackpool magistrates.
