Martyn Burrows, 28, assault

A man slapped a female security guard round the face with his glasses case as he was being ejected from a Blackpool bar.

Martyn Burrows, 28, of Sandyhill Road, North Manchester, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay the guard £50 compensation with £40 costs and £20 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said a female security officer at Yates on the Promenade was called to help with Burrows who was refusing to be searched on July 11.

He dropped his glasses case and the guard picked it up for him.

Burrows then smacked the case across her face.

When interviewed by police Burrows said he had drunk three bottles of Prosecco and some beer.

Christopher Carroll, 54, possessing a knife in public

A visitor who came to Blackpool for the Rebellion punk festival has appeared at court facing a knife charge and been banned from entering the resort.

Christopher Carroll, 54, of Ashton Hill Lane, Droylsden, Manchester, pleaded not guilty to possessing a Stanley knife outside the Shenanigans bar on the Promenade on August 4.

Prosecutor Pam Smith’s application for the case to be heard at crown court was not opposed by defence lawyer Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair.

Carroll was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on September 5 by Blackpool magistrates.

He must live at his given address and not enter Blackpool as conditions of his bail.

Ryan Fletcher, 23, breach of Sexual Harm Prevention Order

A man accused of a sex offence has been banned from a cemetery.

Ryan Fletcher, 23, of Chesterfield Road, North Shore, Blackpool, is charged with breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order by having contact with two 12-year-old girls between June 1 and 15 this year.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, asked for the case to be adjourned for further police inquiries.

Fletcher was bailed to September 3.

He must not enter Layton Cemetery or the resort’s Kingscote Park or contact prosecution witnesses.

Kara Clare, 42, burglar and driving with no insurance

A woman accused of burgling her sister-in-law’s home in Blackpool has made her first appearance at court.

Kara Clare is alleged to have broken into the address and stolen a CCTV system, car and house keys and a Ford Transit van on August 3.

Clare, 42, of Nateby Court, Clifton Drive, South Shore, pleaded not guilty to burglary and denied driving the van without insurance.

Prosecutor Pam Smith’s application that the case be heard at crown court was not opposed by defence lawyer Steven Townley.

Clare was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on September 5.

She must live at her given address and not enter the resort’s George Avenue or contact prosecution witnesses as bail conditions.

Andrew Durnion, 28, theft

A man who had kept out of trouble for two-and-a-half years then stole two toothbrushes from a supermarket.

Andrew Durnion, 28, of Westmorland Avenue, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to theft.

He was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £20 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said staff at Sainsbury’s, Talbot Road, Blackpool. were alerted on June 6, that Durnion was taking items from the store and putting them in his own bag.

He was apprehended and immediately handed back two toothbrushes valued at £120.

Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, said at the time of the offence her client was homeless and had no benefits and had relied on friends and the Salvation Army to assist and feed him.

Since being released from prison in 2013 for an offence of robbery Durnion had kept out of trouble.

John Simpkin, 31, assault

A man has made his first appearance at court accused of hitting a 10-year-old boy on the side of the head at a Fleetwood caravan park.

John Simpkin, a 31-year-old joiner, of Red Hill Way, Wigan, pleaded not guilty to assaulting the boy.

He is also accused of breaching a restraining order by being with a woman he was banned from contacting.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at the Cala Gran Caravan Park on August 5.

The prosecution opposed an application for bail for Simpkin by defence lawyer Stephen Duffy.

Simpkin was bailed to November 7 for trial by magistrates with the condition he did not contact any prosecution witnesses.
