Gordon Young, 51, drink-driving

Police had no trouble tracking down a drunken motorist after a tip-off - because he was driving a pink Rolls Royce.

Gordon Young was more than twice over the alcohol limit when police stopped his distinctive car.

Last month he admitted drink-driving in a BMW on his way to Blackpool Magistrates’ Court to face the offence of driving his pink Rolls Royce while over the alcohol level.

On that occasion he pleaded guilty and a breath test showed 56 microgrammes of alcohol in his body – the level is 35. He said he had swapped his Rolls Royce for the BMW that day.

Young, 51, of Bright Street, South Shore, pleaded guilty to drink-driving in the Rolls Royce.

He was sentenced to a 12 month community order with up to 20 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service and must take a drink impaired driver’s course, ordered to do 150 hours unpaid work for the community, banned from the road for 52 months and told to pay £85 costs plus £85 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Andrew Robinson, said police received information Young had staggered out of a shop and set off in a pink Rolls Royce on April 3 at 8pm.

A breath test showed 88 microgrammes of alcohol in his body. He had two previous drink-driving convictions one from 2006, the other from 2010.

Young, who was representing himself, said he would welcome taking the drink impaired driver’s course.

Terrence Ward, 29, burglary

A man who had just been released from prison burgled a Blackpool bridalwear shop.

Terence Ward, 29, of Raikes Parade armed himself with a hammer and two screwdrivers to get into the Cedar Square premises. He took three boxes of jewellery and a camera.

Ward pleaded guilty to burglary. He was given an 18-week jail term suspended for a year. The court ordered Ward to pay the shop £100 compensation and £200 costs.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said: “The shop was burgled at night and the owner was met by a police officer when she went to open up the following morning.”

Lyndsay Dalton, 26, drink-driving, no insurance and not in accordance with a licence

A woman who had been celebrating her birthday crashed into traffic lights as she drove a friend’s Alfa Romeo car home.

Lyndsay Dalton had drunk a bottle of prosecco, two bottles of wine and some jäger bombs and told police she had not seen the lights as she tried to pull over.

Dalton, a 26-year-old waitress, of First Avenue, Wrea Green, pleaded guilty to drink-driving without insurance and not in accordance with a licence.

She was sentenced to do 80 hours unpaid work for the community, banned from driving for 25 months and ordered to pay £85 costs with £85 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police went to Fleetwood Road, Kirkham, on July 17 at 11pm, where Dalton had hit the lights, damaging them and the car.

A breath test showed she was almost three times over the limit with 102 microgrammes of alcohol in her body.

When interviewed Dalton said she normally only drank a couple of nights a week and not as much as she had that night but she had been celebrating her birthday.

She said she had not driven for eight months before the day of the offences and the last time had been with her driving instructor.

Antal Csako, 26, assault

A man accused of pushing a woman causing her to break her elbow which needed surgery to insert a metal plate in the injury has made his first appearance at court.

Antal Csako, 26, of Rosemede Avenue, Marton, who had the court proceedings relayed to him by an Hungarian interpreter, is charged with maliciously wounding the woman causing her grievous bodily harm.

The offence is alleged to have taken place on February 2 in Blackpool.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, asked for the case to be heard at crown court.

Csako was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on September 5.

Bethany Butterworth, 21, fraud

A woman accused of a fraud involving £1,391 has made her first appearance at court.

Bethany Butterworth, 21, of West Way, Bolton, is charged with fraud by falsely representing another person’s bank cards were hers and using them to obtain cash and buy goods in Blackpool on February 3.

Butterworth, who did not enter a plea to the offence, was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on September 5 .
