A landlord illegally claimed £4,687 in benefits when he failed to reveal a tenant had left.

Allen Lund, 49, of The Royal Oak, Wigan Lower Road, Standish, denied dishonestly failing to notify a change in circumstances, but was found guilty at trial.

He was sentenced to 100 hours unpaid work for the community and pay £480 costs, by Blackpool magistrates.

Carmel White, prosecuting for Blackpool Council, said Lund was the landlord of a property in Hornby Road, Blackpool, and received housing benefit direct for the tenant.

The tenant left in 2011, but there was no trace of Lund informing the council and housing benefit continue to be paid.

Lund told magistrates the tenant was an alcoholic who used to go off for weeks and had left property in his room.
