Lancashire schools targeted in threatening email attack

Police say they received two calls on Tuesday in Lancashire relating to the emails which the National Crime Agency is now investigating.

But officers stressed that although the emails were distressing, there is currently "no credible threat".

It has not been confirmed which schools in Lancashire have been affected by email

The exact content of the email or nature of the threats made has not yet been released.

An NCA spokesman said: “We are aware of a number of threatening emails being sent to schools and are investigating alongside our partners in the police.

"We understand that these types of emails can be distressing and while we take the communications extremely seriously we must stress there is no credible threat.

"We would ask that anyone receiving such an email contact their local police."

Schools in the Midlands are also known to have been targeted.

In March two schools in Lancashire, including one in Preston, received a hoax email threatening to detonate a bomb.

The emails were later traced back to row in the states about Minecraft.

A total of 24,000 emails were sent to schools across the country.
