A SUPERMARKET team leader who had been using steroids was described as “possessed” by his girlfriend as he attacked her.
Craig Briggs, a keen gym member, forcefully held down his partner and partly ripped off her jeans as she screamed for help.
Briggs had been consumed with jealousy when he discovered a work colleague he disliked had gone out with his girlfriend before he met her.
Briggs, 26, of St Martins Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to assaulting the mum-of-two.
He was bailed for pre-sentence reports by Blackpool magistrates.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the couple had been in a relationship for eight years.
On July 4, Briggs started calling his partner rude names, shouting and swearing at her because he was jealous about a previous relationship she had been in before he met her.
Briggs told her: “I’m going to see this other bloke and if he does not tell me what I want to hear, I’ll come back for you.”
Later he jumped on her, holding her down with his forearm across her face.
The victim described him as possessed. Briggs ripped off her jeans to just above the knees.
John McLaren, defending, said: “They had a number of problems and on the day of the offence the pressure cooker just blew.”
Briggs had previously taken performance enhancing steroids when he went to a gym he attended regularly.
The couple had also been under pressure because they were in debt and had been helping an older relative move home.
