Investigation launched after attempted rape

Detectives have launched an investigation after the attempted rape of a woman in Lytham earlier this morning.

At around 6:50am this morning a 20-year-old woman was out walking a dog when she noticed a man following her as she walked along Mornington Road. As she turned onto Meadow Lane, the man grabbed her, pushed her to the floor making sexual remarks to her.

Fortunately, neighbours heard something outside and the man was disturbed, running off towards Preston Road.

Det Insp Gareth Willis said: “I have a dedicated team of detectives working on this case and I would urge anyone with any information at all to come forward.”

The man is described as white, in his 20’s, of slim build with olive skin. He has stubble on his face and short dark hair and was wearing dark clothes and a hooded top.

A 23 year old man from Blackpool has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and is currently in custody.

Det Insp Willis added: “I would appeal to anyone in the area who may have noticed any suspicious in the activity in around Mornington Road and Meadow Lane to come forward and contact us.”
