Inmate accused of escape from jail

An inmate who is accused of escaping from an open prison has made his first appearance before a magistrates’ court.

Keith O’Donnell, 28, of no fixed address, who is serving a sentence for robbery, is alleged to have escaped from Kirkham Open Prison on Saturday.

O’Donnell is said to have been caught at Kirkham railway station the same day.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, asked for the case to be heard at the higher crown court.

Defence lawyer, Steven Townley, said his client had indicated he would make a guilty plea to the charge.

O’Donnell was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court by Blackpool magistrates.

He will next appear on January 2.
