Images released as police hunt for man in connection with armed robbery in Blackpool

Detectives investigating the robberies have released images of a man they want to speak to in connect with the incidents.

A member of the public suffered serious facial injuries as he grappled with a man with a knife during one of the robberies.

The four raids took place within 20 minutes of each other in the Highfield Road area on Monday, May 7.

Now officers are asking for the public’s help in identify a man captured in CCTV footage.

Det Insp Kevin Simmons, from Blackpool CID said: “These were particularly vicious robberies resulting in one man suffering life changing injuries.

“Several members of the public bravely tackled the knifeman, who escaped with just £80.

“We are asking any witnesses to the robberies or anyone who recognises this man to contact us.”

The first incident happened at B&M Bargains around 5pm, then Tesco Express, followed by two newsagents in Highfield Road.

On each occasion the offender has made demands for money whilst threatening staff members with a knife and an item concealed to look like a firearm.

It is thought the thug was wearing a clown mask during the first two robberies and travelled to each of the incidents on a bicycle.

One shop worker John Joseph told the Gazette how he ran for his life when he found himself face to face with the intruder.

The 40 year old had been working at Premier Convenience Store at the time.

"I ran out of the shop because I didn't want to lose my life. I had to save myself, it wasn't worth it," he said.
