This copper came a cropper after careering off the road below The Tower and on to one of the revamped Prom’s concrete bollards during a 999 call.
The police van was left perched on top of the spherical ‘street furniture’ after the bizarre incident which has since gone viral on the internet.
Thousands of people have viewed the police’s unfortunate gaffe after eagle-eyed Gaz Eyres captured it on his phone, believed to be on Wednesday.
He said: “I flashed him to go and he was going too fast for the corner. Obviously no fatalities, just a light hearted look into the boys and girls in blue who are apparently trained in advanced driving.”
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “The officer concerned was responding to an emergency response call when the collision occurred.
“There was no member of the public involved and the officer was uninjured.
“There is currently an ongoing internal investigation in relation to the matter as is standard procedure when a police officer is involved in a road traffic collision while on duty.”
Blackpool’s multi-million pound shared space Promenade opened in 2011 but sparked concerns from taxi drivers and blind people over its design.
A consultation last year recommeded the road stayed as it was despite calls to return to four lanes.
