A husband slapped and punched his wife then said to her “that will teach you”, a court was told.

Andrew Youngson, 37, of Station Road, South Shore, a part-time worker at a bookmakers, pleaded guilty to assault.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said Youngson’s wife complained about him leaving wet towels on the bathroom floor on April 11.

The court heard Youngson punched and slapped her face saying “that will teach you”, leaving her with a swollen eye, a cut on her nose and lumps on her head.

Hugh Pond, defending, said Youngson said his wife had an epileptic fit and he tried to help. She came to and started shouting abuse so he lost his temper and hit her. Youngson was fined £175 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £30 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
