A MAN hit his next door neighbour on the head with a spade, Blackpool magistrates were told.

Lawrence Senior, 55, of Highfield Road, South Shore, admitted assault and damaging a window.

Senior said he had not hit his neighbour with a spade.

The case was adjourned to April 2 for a hearing where evidence from both the prosecution and defence will be heard.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said on February 4 the neighbour heard banging and went outside to see Senior had smashed a window with a spade.

As the neighbour dialled 999 on his mobile phone, he was hit on the head and heard a boing-type noise of metal.

The neighbour needed hospital treatment for a cut head.

The prosecutor said it was the crown’s case Senior had hit the neighbour with a spade.
