A hard-up father with a new baby stole because Christmas was coming a judge was told.

Martin Tysoe, 33, of Prescot Place, Thornton, pleaded guilty to one offence of theft and asked for another offence of theft to be taken into consideration.

He was sentenced to four weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £80 victims’ surcharge by District Judge James Hatton sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said Tysoe stole £70 worth of washing gel from Tesco, Poulton, on December 8 and on December 27 took three boxes of chocolate from the same shop.

Trevor Colebourne, defending, said Tysoe has come out of prison drug free and his partner had given birth to a baby daughter, but Tysoe’s benefits were stopped.
