A WOMAN told police she had stolen meat from a shop because she had spent all her money on drugs and had no food.

Alexandra Downie, 40, of Queen Street, North Shore, admitted theft and asked for three other offences of stealing from a shop to be considered.

Jenny Prendergast, prosecuting, said Downie stole £29 of meat from Sainsburys on January 13.

Sue Mugford, defending, said her client had problems with drugs misuse but was now on medication from her doctor in an effort to get clean.

Downie had confessed to police the three thefts taken into consideration because she wanted to start with a clean sheet.

She was given a 12 months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £29 compensation and £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
