A grandfather had his teenage daughter in the car with him when he was over the alcohol limit.

John Cygal was stopped after a police community support officer complained about the way he was driving his Mercedes.

Cygal, 47, of Navena Avenue, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He had a previous conviction for being in charge of a vehicle while over the limit.

He was banned from the road for three years and fined £110 with £85 costs plus £20 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Nicola Corney, prosecuting, said police stopped Cygal on August 21 at 7.10pm. A blood test showed 95 milligrammes of alcohol in his body - 80 is the limit.

David Charnley, defending, said his client had drunk heavily the night before. He had had a couple of drinks on the day of the offence, but felt ok to drive.
