A GRANDMOTHER turned to shoplifting to help fund her need for methadone.
Grandmother Christine McDonald, 48, of Styan Street, Fleetwood, admitted stealing £20 worth of confectionery from Tesco Express on Hatfield Road, Fleetwood.
She asked for another offence – stealing meat from Iceland – to be considered.
Patrick Nelligan, defending, said: “These offences took place when her methadone prescription had halted.
“She needed to buy the drug on the streets.
“The prescription has now been restored.”
McDonald was fined £50 by Blackpool magistrates but they said that she need not pay because of the time she has served in custody since her arrest.
