Garage boss grew cannabis

David Turner, who said he started using cannabis heavily after his father died, started to grow his own because he did not want to pay drug dealers £150 for the amount of the drug he used each week.

Turner, 23, of The Close, Kirkham, who runs a garage at Brock, pleaded guilty to cannabis production.

He was sentenced to 12 months supervision and ordered to pay £85 costs with £60 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates, who also ordered the destruction of the drugs.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Turner went with police to a flat in Station Road, Wesham, where 20 cannabis plants were found growing in the bedroom on May 9.

Turner estimated the drugs were worth about £12,000.

Peter Cave, defending, said Turner, who had no previous convictions, had grown the cannabis only for his own use and there was no suggestion he was selling the drug to anyone.

He had reduced his cannabis use and now aimed to stop using it.
