A Fylde coast village turned out to line the roads in tribute to a former councillor and long-serving police officer.

Keith was a police sergeant in Blackpool and a traffic officer with a long standing interest in road safety. He served from from 1964 to 1995 and became sergeant in 1979.
In retirement Keith was an examiner for the Institute of Advanced Motorists. He did this for more than 30 years and passed the 1,000 tests mark.

Hide AdHe was also a parish councillor and was the council’s vexillologist and helped design the Staining Village Flag.
His son Darrell, who lives in Blackpool ,said, ‘In 1994 I was also a police officer and was promoted to sergeant and transferred to Blackpool. Confusion reigned at Blackpool Police Station until everyone got used to two Sergeant Shucks."
John Singleton, Fylde Councillor for Staining and Weeton Villages, said: "Keith was a traffic officer with a passion for road safety, he would ride police motorcycles in all sorts of weather and he supported local safe driving groups such as Blackpool Safe Driving Association.
"He organised and policed many events including royal visits, cycle races, escorting abnormal loads, to name a few. Today, all traffic through Staining slowed down in a mark of respect for a well-liked retired police officer and parish councillor."
