A man who skipped court - where he was due to be sentenced for abusing a young girl - has been arrested, police said.

Officers feared David Graham Laycock, 43, from Burnley, was hiding out in Blackpool and had earlier this week urged resort residents to keep an eye out for him.

North Yorkshire Police this morning confirmed Laycock was arrested in Halifax last night.

Laycock was set to be sentenced for an historic sex attack against a 10-year-old girl in Filey, Yorkshire, but failed to turn up.

A judge at York Crown Court issued a warrant for his arrest, sparking the nationwide manhunt that led to Monday's public appeal.
