Four men accused of breaking into a flat at Blackpool wearing balaclavas, carrying weapons including a sledgehammer and axe and demanding drugs have made their first appearance at court.

The quartet are then alleged to have burgled a neighbouring flat and stolen 17 cannabis plants valued at approximately £4,000.

The defendant are: Antony Christopher, 29, of Spendmore Lane, Jason James, 31, of Lightoller Close, Jamie Loughlin, 27, of Old School Lane and Philip Newsham, 27, of Pall Mall, all from Chorley.

They are accused of the aggravated burglary of a flat on the resort’s Queens Promenade, burglary of a neighbouring flat and possessing cannabis with intent to supply the drug. The offences are alleged to have taken place on September 23 last year.

They were bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on June 3 by Blackpool magistrates. They must not enter Blackpool as a condition of their bail.
