Police were forced to Taser a man who walked into a police station wielding a knife and uttered the words: “I want to kill somebody.”

Officers Tasered 33-year-old Derek Wheeldon in order to restrain him and take the knife from him.

Wheeldon, of North Church Street, Fleetwood, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon, at Fleetwood Police Station.

He also admitted threatening behaviour towards two police officers putting them in fear of violence towards them.

District Judge Jeff Brailsford sent Wheeldon for sentence at Preston Crown Court.

The judge said: “Sentencing must be carried out by the Crown Court. You have a record of similar offences and periods in custody.

“This is at the highest end of this type of offence.”

Defence lawyer Brett Chappell did not apply for bail.

Pre-sentence reports will be prepared on Wheeldon, who was remanded in custody pending his appearance at the higher court on July 29.
