Five friends fined £200 each for Manchester to Blackpool road trip

A carload of friends have been hit with £200 fines after embarking on a road trip from Manchester to Blackpool in the early hours of this morning (Monday, January 25).

Police in the resort stopped the silver Vauxhall Astra after officers spotted the driver and four passengers huddled together inside the car at 3am.

When questioned, the group admitted that they were all from different households - a "clear breach" of coronavirus restrictions, said police.

And officer were even less impressed when they learned that the friends had travelled more than 50 miles from Manchester to visit the resort.

In addition to the flouting of lockdown rules, police checks also revealed that the driver only had a provisional licence and had already clocked up 6 points.

The Astra was seized and the driver and his passengers each hit with Covid fines of £200.

A Lancashire Police spokesman tweeted: "This car travelled into Blackpool from Manchester. Five people on board all from different households and in clear breach of coronavirus regulations.

"Driver only had a provisional licence but had already amassed six penalty points.

"Vehicle seized and Covid enforcement action taken."
