Firefighters uncover cannabis farm in loft at Bispham house fire

A cannabis farm has been uncovered in a loft after fire crews tackled a house fire in Bispham this morning (Tuesday, January 19).

Crews rushed to the scene at a semi-detached home in Hastings Avenue, where a family was forced to flee after their roof caught fire at around 8.25am.

The fire service said the home was "well alight" when teams from Bispham and Blackpool stations arrived at the scene.

After bringing the fire under control, firefighters discovered a cannabis grow in the loft.

Police were called to the scene and an investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Lancashire Police said it is too early to say whether the cannabis grow led to the fire. It says the cause remains under joint investigation with the fire service.

A police spokesman said: "We were called by the fire service at around 8.45am this morning (Tuesday, January 19) to reports of a fire at an address on Hastings Avenue, Blackpool.

"We are currently at the scene and enquiries are underway, however the cause of the fire has yet to be established.

"No arrests have been made as yet."
