A former estate agent caught drink-driving after a tip-off to police was found with drugs in his car.

Craig Chapman, who was almost three times over the alcohol limit, told officers he had a £70 a week cannabis habit.

Chapman, 44, of St Andrews Road South, St Annes, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and possessing cannabis on January 15.

He was sentenced to 16 weeks jail suspended for one year, banned from driving for four years and fined £100 with £85 costs plus £80 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Chapman had drunk some strong lager, but believed he was fit to drive. He disputed saying he had a cannabis habit of £70 a week. The defence added that Chapman did not work, but his mother provided for him.
