A construction worker who was banned from the road for three years for drink-driving has been given a New Year present by a court.

Lee Edwards, 32, of Samlesbury Road, Bispham, had been convicted of driving with more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his body in 2011.

Blackpool magistrates granted the father-of-four’s request for the early return of his licence so he could keep his construction worker’s job.

Edwards was told his ban will be lifted on January 1.

Gerry Coyle, defending, told the court that, in November 2011, Edwards had had an argument with his partner and was asked to leave.

He drove off and was stopped nearby by police.

A breath test showed 78 micrograms of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

Edwards worked for a construction company and the firm had contract work in Kirkham.
