A driver crashed into a metal barrier in Blackpool after taking a drug prescribed by his doctor.

Michael Mayers, 46, of Oswald Street, Oldham, pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said Mayers crashed into a metal barrier on St Walburgas Road, on July 25 at 11pm

A blood sample taken from him was positive for Diazepam.

Mayers told magistrates he was suffering from depression and anxiety.

The evening of the offence his daughter, who lived in Blackpool with his ex-partner, phoned him.

She said her mum’s boyfriend had shouted at her and she wanted her dad to come and pick her up.

On the way there he clipped a metal barrier.

He was banned from the road for 12 months, fined £100 and ordered to pay a £150 court charge.
