A man drove through Blackpool town centre on Boxing Day after downing five cans of lager.

Police watched as Charles McLoughlan’s Fiat Punto swerved and veered along roads and the driver took no notice of police attempts to make him pull up.

When the 59-year-old arrived at his home at Iddon Court he was seen having difficulty putting in the car doorlock.

McLaughlan was arrested but when he was asked to give a breath test at the police station he failed to do so.

He then failed to give a blood test, Blackpool Magistrates Court heard.

McLoughlan’s admitted failing to provide a sample when asked by police and was banned from the road for sixteen months.

He was also ordered to pay £255 in fines and costs.
