A taxi driver accused of lying to a 77-year-old widow by telling her he needed money because his wife had cancer has made his first appearance at court.
Garry Wolstenholme, 42, of Kendal Road, St Annes, pleaded not guilty to fraudulently obtaining £1,600 by lying to the victim about the purpose of the money he wanted from her.
The offence is alleged to have taken place between April 23 and May 8 this year at Blackpool.
Pam Smith, prosecuting, said the case was suitable for trial at a magistrates court.
Wolstenholme asked for trial at crown court.
He was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on December 19 by Blackpool magistrates.
He must not contact the complainant as a condition of his bail.
