The woman, in her 40s, suffered three broken ribs, two cracked cheekbones, and bruising after being shoved to the ground from behind and kicked in the chest and face.

Details of the violent assault were made public on Sunday by officers. They faced criticism from residents on Facebook, who questioned why it took the force so long for an appeal to be launched.

The attack happened in the alleyway between Wilvere Drive and Norkeed Road, Little Bispham, at around 8.45pm on Friday, February 16.

Witnesses have been asked to call 101, quoting LC-20180216-1345.
