Warning to pet owners as pooch thefts soar

Patch, a three-year-old Jack Russell, disappeared from outside a shop on Talbot Road between 6.25pm and 6.30pm on Thursday, police said.

Officers were called at around 7.30pm, a Lancashire Police spokesman said.

Dog rescue group Harvey’s Army reported the dog ‘was seen to have been unclipped and taken by a couple’.

The police spokesman said: “The dog is a Jack Russell, white and brown, wearing a red and white collar and a red and white lead.

“The dog is microchipped.”

No arrests have yet been made.
