An account worker who was depressed after being made redundant got behind the wheel after drinking.

Anthony Matthew was stopped by an officer after he passed a police car on Blackpool Promenade without his lights on.

Matthew, 43, of Bentinck Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

Pam Smith, prosecuting, said Matthew drove past police in a Toyota Yaris without lights on, on September 19 at 4.20am. A breath test showed 63 microgrammes of alcohol in his body – 35 is the limit.

He was disqualified from driving for three years, fined £80 with £85 costs and ordered to pay a £150 court charge plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
