A father shouted a sarcastic comment at a judge after he was refused bail and remanded in custody.

Raymond Connelly told District Judge Huw Edwards sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court: “I want to say thank you to you for making me lose my job and my flat.”

Connelly, a 36-year-old painter and decorator, of Mount Road, Fleetwood, was making his first appearance at court accused of assaulting his former girlfriend and cutting up some of her clothes plus a pair of her Ugg boots with a knife on Boxing Day.

He is also charged with breaching a restraining order which bans him from contacting his ex partner.

Prosecutor, Alison Quanbrough, opposed bail for Connelly, who was remanded in custody towards his trial on February 11.
