A WOMAN has made her first appearance at court facing four charges of ill-treating an elderly lady she was caring for.

Christine Rignall – a care worker with Fylde Community Care – was one of a team looking after the alleged victim at her home in St Annes.

Rignall, 57, of Selby Avenue, South Shore, faces four charges of ill-treating the woman, a person she believed to lack mental capacity.

The magistrates heard the victim suffered from dementia and required care assistants.

The allegations against Rignall involve threats, placing the elderly woman hand in her own mouth, laughing at her, intimidating her and bullying behaviour over a period of time from September 2011 to April 2012.

Rignall elected to stand trial at Preston Crown Court when she appeared in the dock at Blackpool Magistrates Court. She was bailed to attend the higher court on May 30.
