A rented storage unit at a farm in St Michaels became home to a cannabis farm capable of growing up to £92,000 of the drug, a court heard.

Some 225 plants were discovered when police carried out a search at Horrocks Farm on Rawcliffe Road.

A man was linked to the crime because his DNA was found on equipment there.

Christopher Reuben, 28, of Baxendale Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, was given 12 months prison suspended for two years by a judge at Preston Crown Court.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of being concerned in the production of cannabis.

Paul Cummings, prosecuting, said a storage unit at the farm had earlier been rented out.

On January 26 last year a police constable went to the unit following a report of suspicious activity taking place there. Cultivation and ventilation equipment was also found.
