Burglars broke into Tesco in Whitegate Drive in Blackpool looking for cigarettes but when they couldn’t get access to them they stole champagne and whisky instead.

It happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and police say £300 of champagne was taken.

DS Kathryn Riley of Blackpool CID said: “In the early hours of this morning entry has been gained by the roof where an offender or offenders have gained entry to the store.

“It is believed they have wanted to target the cigarettes but because they are locked away they haven’t been able to.

“They have taken a number of bottles of champagne.”

DS Riley said she is appealing to members of the public for information.

The alcohol stolen is listed here:

18 bottles André Carpentier

2 bottles Lanson black label

11 bottles Nicolas Feuillattte

5 bottles Moet

2 bottle Glenfiddich 12-year-old malt

12 bottles Glenlivet single mat
