Brick-throwing yobs are being hunted after they ambushed two trains close to a South Shore bridge.

Both trains had to be taken out of service after they were attacked by Watson Road bridge close to Blackpool South station.

The first incident happened at 3.40pm on Friday May 10 when a brick was thrown at the Colne to Blackpool South service, shattering a window.

An 18-year-old youth wearing white tracksuit bottoms and the other a grey top were seen in the area.

Just five days later at the same time and also as a train passed under Watson Road, a young man was seen to throw a brick which struck the train causing the driver’s cab door window to shatter.

Insp Adrian Yorston said: “The actions of these vandals are beyond belief.

“They clearly had no thought for the people travelling or working on the train. Thankfully no-one was injured, but there is no doubt that the drivers of both services were shocked by the incidents.”

The yob involved in the second incident is white, blond hair and a light blue jacket. Call police on 0800 40 50 40.
