A man arrested by police over an incendiary device left at a Preston shopping centre has been released on bail.

The 27 year old, from Preston, was arrested yesterday morning at an address in the city.

He was held and questioned on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life before being released late last night.

Police were called to the Fishergate Centre shortly after 9am on Thursday after reports a crude incendiary device had been found in the men’s toilets.

The device had ignited but caused no real damage and no injuries.

The centre was evacuated as a precaution and remained closed for the rest of the day. It is now fully open.

Det Chief Insp Jill Johnston of Preston CID said there were still a significant number of checks and inquiries to be made, including examining CCTV footage, forensic work, and interviewing witnesses.

She added: “We would like to thank the public for their response and support. It has been overwhelming.”
