Sophie Emma Rose, 41, who was six months pregnant, died when the scooter she was riding on the back of collided with an 18-wheel lorry on May 8 last year.

Danny Glass, from Kent, was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and fined 15,000 baht – around £340 – after admitting the charge, according to The Phuket Times.

In a video uploaded to YouTube on Monday, Glass said he had been given ‘a two-year suspended sentence and a 15,000 baht fine’, and took a swipe at the media.

He said: “What I think at the end of the day is any publicity is good publicity. So by them putting me in the newspapers and in the news in the UK and around the world, it’s actually directing a lot of traffic to my YouTube channel.”

Sophie was originally from the resort but had moved to Thailand with her young son, and was remembered by her friends as having an ‘enquiring heart and soul’ and ‘passionate love’ for her son, who is now being cared for by his dad, it is understood.

Her own YouTube channel had amassed millions of views, with the last clip uploaded just hours before the accident, which happened in the Thalang district of Phuket, which is Thailand’s biggest island.

In another recent video, Glass said he was put in a cell for seven hours before his court appearance.

“I thought I was going into a court room, and I was feeling anxiety and fear around that for completely understandable reasons,” he said.

“But after about seven hours ... they put me in another cell with other people and there was a web cam through the wall and a TV.

“They put the TV on and there was two men sitting in a chair, and that was the court hearing.

“A translator came along and said my name and the charge I was being given and did I accept it or not.

“And yeah, I accepted the charge of death caused by reckless driving.”

He said lawyers told him that, in Thailand, ‘it doesn’t matter if it was an accident or not when you are in the type of accident I was, you will still get charged with reckless driving’.

But he denied speeding, being over the limit or on drugs, and said there was no evidence of reckless driving.

“I got advised by multiple different people, including police, to just accept it rather than fight it because I’ll just get small penalty and then it can be over and done with and I can get on with my life.”

Glass said he ‘over the moon’ the case was over, and said he would now leave Thailand.
