Body of man found on Blackpool beach near South Pier identified

The body of a man which was found on the beach near South Pier has been identified.

RNLI lifeboats, Coastguard rescuers, and the Coastguard's helicopters spent hours scouring the Irish Sea after a man was seen in the water at around 3.50pm on Monday (March 2).

The body of a man, thought to be aged in his 20s or 30s, was found during a search of the beach near South Pier at around 9pm, after the tide went out.

Police have now confirmed that the man has now been identified and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "Following an appeal for help earlier this week we have now identified a man who was found on the beach in Blackpool.

"After a number of enquiries we have now identified the man. His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this time.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and a file will be passed to HM Coroner."
