Blackpool shop worker 'ran for his life' from knife wielding raider

The 40-year-old says he was shocked when the robber showed him a knife at the shop and ran for his life.

Mr Joseph said: "I was very scared and afraid. I just couldn't face him.

"He came into our shop and demanded money. He showed me the knife and asked me to give him money.

"I ran out of the shop because I didn't want to lose my life. I had to save myself, it wasn't worth it.

Detectives say that the Premier convenience store was one of four shops on the road believed to have been raided by the knifeman who wore a clown mask and traveled between the shops on a bicycle.

The first robbery happened at around 5pm on Monday at B&M Bargains. The Tesco Express was targeted shortly after, followed by the Premier store and another newsagent on Highfield Road.

During the robbery at the Tesco Express police say a number of people grappled with the thief and a member of the public suffered a slash wound to his face.

Police say he is being treated for the injury which has been described as "life changing."

Bosses at Tesco praised the man's "outstanding bravery" and and thanked him for his actions.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We were deeply shocked by this incident and extend our sincere thanks to our customer for his outstanding bravery.

"All of us at Tesco wish him well for his recovery and our colleagues in-store would like to thank him personally when he feels able.

"We are grateful to the emergency services for their swift response and will be assisting with the investigation."

Police say that patrols in the area have been increased and that their investigation is continuing.
