Blackpool security guard seriously hurt after bottle assault

A security guard has been left with serious injuries after he was hit over the head with a bottle.

The incident happened after the guard witnessed a man stealing two bottles of alcohol from Sainsbury’s on Talbot Road in Blackpool, at about 9pm on Tuesday.

He chased the man and confronted him outside Subway, before he was hit over the head with one of the bottles.

The man then made off from the scene.

The security guard, a 41 year old man, sustained serious head injuries and remains at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

DC Paul Morris of Blackpool CID said: “The security guard has suffered a serious head injury while he was trying to apprehend a suspected shoplifter and we are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident and witnessed what happened to contact us.”
