Craig Bristow-Prime, a 33-year-old production operative, of Bamton Avenue, South Shore, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a car while over the alcohol limit.

He was banned from the road for six months, fined £200 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £85 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Jeff Brailsford.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said police received a report of a man slumped over the steering wheel of a Mercedes in Queen Street, Blackpool, on April 29 at 5.10am.

Officers saw the ignition keys between Bristow-Prime’s legs. He was woken and was unsteady on his feet.

A blood test showed he was more than double the drink-drivelimit with 76 micrograms of alcohol – 35 is the limit.

Hugh Pond, defending, said his client, who had no previous convictions, had been out with a friend but they got separated and he had no money for a taxi home.

Bristow-Prime decided to sleep in his car, went across the road from the nightspot he was in and got into the Mercedes.

He had no intention of driving it.
