Damian Davis, 25, breach of restraining order, assault

A man who twice breached a restraining order in the space of five months has been jailed.

Damian Davis, 25, of Hornby Road, Blackpool, was put behind bars for 18 weeks.

Davis admitted breaching an order forbidding him from having any contact with a former partner and also a charge of assault.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said that Davis met up with the woman in Blackpool town centre. Both had been drinking.

In the early hours of the morning a witness saw Davis sitting astride the woman on the pavement demanding his coat back.

Police were called and Davis ran off and as he tried to escape he ran straight into another woman, knocked her to the ground and injured her.

Callum Knights, 21, assault

A man headbutted his girlfriend in front of their nine-months-old daughter after she told him he could not go into town with a friend.

Callum Knights also started breaking items around the house when his partner asked him to keep the noise down.

Knights, a 21-year-old biscuit factory worker at Kirkham, of Benton Road, Ribbleton, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was sentenced to a 12 months community order with up to 30 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, ordered to do 80 hours unpaid work for the community and told to pay £100 costs with £85 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Sarah Perkins, said a 999 call was made to police stating Knights had assaulted his girlfriend at their home on March 3 at 9pm.

Knights had headbutted his partner causing redness and swelling to her face. He had also smashed a mirror and bashed a hole in the wardrobe.

Knights had a record of 40 previous offences some for assault and damage.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said Knights had been drinking and when he started causing damage his partner restrained him from behind.

Seven Faill, 40, misleading trading

A computer conman tricked elderly customers into thinking they were buying state-of-the-art equipment when, in fact, it was 10 years old.

Seven Faill, 40, admitted three offences of misleading trading under the Consumer Protection Act by making customers make decisions they would not normally have taken.

He was ordered to pay a total of £2,639 in fines, costs and compensation.

Faill, of St Martin’s Road, South Shore, ran a firm called Fix My Computer.

Mike Caveney, prosecuting for Blackpool Council’s Trading Standards department, told the court how Faill went to one customer’s home after she experienced problems with her computer.

He said he could build her a new one for £400 and transfer data from the old one for a further £120.

She paid him £520 in cash but the so called new computer developed problems and though he did return to her home to try and remedy the situation she eventually found it difficult to contact Faill.

Mr Caveney said: “In her statement she said that what Faill supplied her with was no better than the one she had before and it had cost her £520 for the privilege.”

A second victim’s case was described to the court. She had experienced problems with her computer being hacked and her bank details taken.

The prosecutor said: “The computer involved was just 10 months old.

“She contacted Faill who said she needed a new computer and offered her an Apple Mac for £600.

“He said he would take her existing computer in part exchange.”

Faill supplied the victim with what he said was a new computer and then said she needed better Internet access using a new cable connection.

The woman parted with £619 but her new computer equipment did not work properly.

In a statement Trading Standards officer Lee Petrak said the cable Faill had charged £170 for could be bought online for just £25.

Barry Nelson, 47, robbery

A man accused of armed robbery at a convenience store in Fleetwood has made his first appearance at court.

Barry Nelson, 47, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery of £214 of cash from the Premier store on Chatsworth Avenue, on Saturday.

He is also accused of possessing an imitation firearm in the form of a ball bearing gun with intent to cause the shopkeeper to believe violence would be used against her.

Nelson was remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court on June 20.
