Blackpool cyclist taken to hospital with 'slash-type' injuries after gang attack near Central Avenue

A cyclist has been treated for 'slash-type' wounds after being attacked by a group of men in Blackpool.

The unprovoked attack happened at around 2.30pm on Saturday (March 21) when a man in his 30s had been cycling along Belmont Avenue.

Police said the cyclist was confronted by a group of approximately four men, who gave chase and struck him several times on the head.

The gang fled towards Central Drive, leaving the man bleeding in the street from 'slash-type' injuries.

Lancashire Police have not confirmed whether a knife was involved in the attack.

The victim was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital and required a number of stitches.

One of the offenders is described as Asian, aged in his mid-20s, around 6ft tall, of skinny build, with short dark hair and a thin designer-style beard with a goatee.

He had been wearing a black puffer-style jacket, a navy blue jumper with white a t-shirt underneath and grey Adidas jogging bottoms with white vertical stripes on the outer leg.

The victim said the man had spoken with a Manchester accent.

The cyclist was unable to provide descriptions of the rest of the group.

"We are now determined to find out who was responsible and are asking anybody with information about who the men may be to get in touch with us as soon as possible.
