George Hurst, 21 possessing cocaine and cannabis

A builder’s labourer found with two types of drugs told police: “It’s all for me.”

George Hurst, 21, of Hornby Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine and cannabis.

He was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs with £20 victims’ surcharge. Presiding magistrate Mark Cowburn, told him: “You seem to have learned your lesson. We don’t want to see you again.”

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, said door security staff on Queen Street identified Hurst to a police officer on November 25 at 12.50am, as possibly having drugs.

When searched bags of cocaine and a bag of cannabis was found on him.

James Sullivan, 21, drink-driving

A driver who was over the alcohol limit hopes to keep his licence.

James Sullivan was said to be fleeing after being assaulted by a male relative.

Sullivan, 21, formerly of Lune Close, Kirkham, now living at Alconbury Crescent, Cleveleys, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He had been behind the wheel of a Citroen C1 on Fleetwood Road, Wesham, on January 22 when a breath test showed he was more than twice the limit with 75 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.

Defence lawyer, Suzanne Mugford, told the court: “While my client will plead guilty he wishes to raise special reasons as to why he was driving at that time. He was fleeing from an address after being assaulted.”

Sullivan was bailed to a hearing on May 8 by Blackpool magistrates when he will try to show special reasons why he should not be disqualified from driving.

Gary Dean, 37, dangerous driving

A driver led police cars and the force helicopter on a high speed chase along three motorways.

Gary Dean drove his saloon car at speeds of up to 120mph on the M61 M6 and M55 and crashed into another vehicle.

Dean, 37, of Frederick Street, South Shore, pleaded guilty to driving a Toyota Avensis dangerously.

The offence took place on August 28 2016.

Prosecutor, Pam Smith, told magistrates: “Police pursued him at high speed. The defendant collided with another vehicle. It was prolonged dangerous driving and he disregarded the safety of others.”

Dean had four previous convictions for driving dangerously and a number of previous offences of disqualified driving.

Dean was bailed to March 14 for sentence at Preston Crown Court by Blackpool magistrates.

Simon Ward, 28, drink-driving

A driver was found in his car at St Annes while he was more than two-and-a-half times over the alcohol limit. Simon Ward, 28, of Bowness Avenue, St Annes, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a car with excess alcohol in his body.

The court was told that on January 24 Ward was seen in a Citroen Picasso parked on Park Road, St Annes.

A breath test showed 91 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.

He had a previous conviction for being in charge of a car with excess alcohol in his system.

Ward was bailed for pre-sentence reports and banned from driving in the meantime by Blackpool magistrates.

Michael Wall, 50, assault

A ex- joinery workshop manager battered his partner in their home on Boxing Day after drinking vodka.

Michael Wall punched her in the face causing her to fall onto a bed then repeatedly punched her.

She suffered a cut and swollen lip and bruising to both sides of her face.

Wall, 50, of Woodlands Court, Ansdell, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was sentenced to a 12 months community order with up to 35 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, ordered to do 80 hours unpaid work for the community and told to pay his partner £100 compensation.

Wall was also put on a 12 months restraining order which banned him from contacting the victim or going to the home they once shared, except for once with a police officer to collect his belongings.

Prosecutor, Sarah Perkins, told magistrates the victim said she had been in a relationship with Wall for 10 years but that he had started to drink heavily.

On December 26 at 12.20pm they argued. Wall fell face down on the stairs and as she tried to walk past him he grabbed her and started to punch her. He then chased her into a bedroom and assaulted her.

The victim, a nurse, said in a personal statement that the ferocity of the attack took her completely by surprise and she felt helpless.
