Kelly Martin, 42, theft

A woman who turned to crime when she was addicted to drink and drugs was now a reformed character a court was told.

Kelly Martin had beaten her addiction to alcohol and crack cocaine after working with substance abuse specialists.

Martin, 42, formerly of Meadowcroft, St Annes, who gave her address as North Clifton Street, Lytham, pleaded guilty to three offences of theft.

She was sentenced to a nine month community order with up to 10 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, fined £50 and ordered to pay £108 compensation.

Prosecutor, Andrea Fawcett, said Martin stole £25 of brandy from Booths, Heyhouses Lane, St Annes, on April 25.On May 15 she took £15 of lager

from Tesco and on June 3 returned to the Booths store she had previously stolen from to take vodka valued at £65.

Brett Chappell, defending, told magistrates: “At the time her life was in freefall as she was addicted to crack cocaine and alcohol.

“This led her to commit the offences. She is now drug and alcohol free.”

Richard Reeve, 38, burglary

A police officer recognised a man from CCTV footage who had stolen more than £2,000 of property when he raided a garage and cars.

Richard Reeve, 38, of St Heliers Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to burglary and asked for four offences of theft from a car to be taken into consideration.

He was ordered to pay £1,810 compensation by Blackpool magistrates who imposed no other penalty.

Prosecutor Andrea Fawcett, said Reeve was captured on CCTV breaking into the garage of a Blackpool house on September 25 and stealing two bicycles, bike equipment after shaves and tools valued together of £2,325.

The footage was seen by a police officer who recognised Reeve when the defendant went into Blackpool police station about another matter. After being arrested Reeve confessed he had also stolen property from four cars.

Kathryn Jamieson-Sunclair, defending, said Reeve had a history of drug problems, but he was not currently using drugs.

At the time of the offences Reeve had been having accommodation problems and been staying with friends.

Peter Lloyd, 51, making indecent photographs of children

A man accused of making indecent pictures of children at the most depraved level has made his first appearance at court.

Peter Lloyd, 51, formerly of Napier Avenue, South Shore, now living at Claremont Court, North Shore, faces three charges of making indecent photographs of children.

He is also accused of one offence of possessing 3,124 indecent images of children, having a prohibited image of a child and possessing extreme pornography involving animals.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between October and November last year at Blackpool.

Prosecutor Jim Mowbray, asked for the case to be heard at crown court.

Defence lawyer, Steven Townley, said his client would not indicate pleas to the offences at this stage.

Lloyd was bailed to appear at Preston Crown Court on January 11 by Blackpool magistrates.

He must not have any unsupervised contact with any child under 16 unless the contact is inadvertent or fleeting as a condition of his bail.

John Riley, 37, assault

A man accused of biting his girlfriend while she was holding a baby has made his first appearance at court.

John Riley is alleged to have pushed and dragged his partner from a bedroom and bitten her on the finger.

Riley, 37, of Fairhaven Avenue, Fleetwood, pleaded not guilty to assault.

He was bailed to January 23 for trial by District Judge Margaret McCormack.

He must not contact his girlfriend as a condition of his bail.

Christine Wilkinson, 53, theft, driving with no insurance

A mother was arrested outside a store from which she had stolen £141 of beauty products.

Christine Wilkinson, 53, of St Andrews Road South, St Annes, pleaded guilty to theft and driving without insurance and not in accordance with her licence.

She was fined £160 with £85 costs, ordered to pay £30 victims’ surcharge and had six motoring penalty points put on her driving licence by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Jim Mowbray, said Wilkinson was seen stealing items from TK Maxx, Squires Gate, on November 11.

When interviewed she admitted she had borrowed her husband’s Mobility car to drive to the shop.

She had a South African driving licence which was not valid here and she was not insured.

Peter Cave, defending, said his client had no previous convictions but had a caution for an offence of shoplifting.

She had admitted she had recently had an urge to go into places and take things.

Her husband had a progressive nervous problem and she was suffering from depression.

She had seen her doctor and was going to have counselling.

Stephen Pugh, 34, failed to comply with bail conditions

A man broke the law by visiting his former girlfriend on the day he had been allowed his freedom by a court.

Stephen Pugh had been bailed by magistrates on the condition he did not contact his ex but he went straight round to her address.

Pugh, 34, of Platt Street, North Shore, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a condition of his bail.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody by District Judge Margaret McCormack.

Prosecutor, Sarah Perkins, opposed bail for Pugh.

She said he had been bailed on December 7 on the condition he did not contact his ex and only went round to her address if accompanied by a police officer.After being released Pugh went straight round to his ex’s address and she was too scared to tell him to leave.

Police were alerted and found him on a bed at the address with a can by his side.

Suzanne Mugford, defending, said her client maintained he did not go round to his ex’s immediately.

Pugh said he had needed some paperwork from his address relating to his benefits and he went round there alone about 11.15pm.

His ex had let him in.
