Daniel Smith, 30, assault, criminal damage, possessing cannabis

A man kicked a police officer on the knee after he had been handcuffed and was being led to a police van.

Daniel Swift had previously had to be pepper-sprayed and threatened with a police Taser after causing damage at his girlfriend’s Fleetwood home.

Swift, a 30-year-old welder, of Devonshire Road, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to assault on police, causing £60 worth of damage to plates glasses and plant pots and possessing cannabis.

He was sentenced to 10 weeks jail, suspended for 12 months with up to 35 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, ordered to pay £100 compensation to the police officer and £60 compensation for the damage, with £85 costs plus £115 victim’s surcharge.

Prosecutor, Jim Mowbray, said police were called to Swift’s partner’s home in Walmsley Street, Fleetwood, on January 18, where the defendant had smashed items in the kitchen.

As a police officer spoke to Swift’s partner the defendant ran up asking what the officer was doing talking to her and threatening to hit him in the head.

He swung a punch at the officer who had to use his pepper spray.

Swift continued to make threats and kicked out at the PC who drew his stun gun and threatened to use it.

Colleagues helped restrain Swift but he kicked the officer on the knee.

Swift, who had a previous conviction for assaulting a partner, was found with a small amount of cannabis when he was searched.

Jordan McQuinn, 21, assault

A man attacked his pregnant fiancée after she complained about him booting the cat off the bed.

Jordan McQuinn then accused her of stealing the cat when she tried to leave with the animal and grabbed her by the hair dragging her to the ground.

McQuinn, a 21-year-old mechanic, formerly of Blackpool, now living at The Old Fire Station, Aynam Road, Kendal, pleaded guilty to assault.

He was sentenced to a 12 months community order with up to 30 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, fined £10 and ordered to £100 compensation to his victim.

Prosecutor, Jim Mowbray, said McQuinn and his 17-year-old girlfriend, who was three months pregnant, were in bed at his flat on September 15 at 11.30pm.

The girlfriend said she picked up the cat and put it on the bed with her.

There was then an argument and she took off her engagement ring and left, taking the cat.

Outside he accused her of stealing his cat and grabbed her hair, dragging her to the ground, causing her sore knees.

Julie Jervis, 44, criminal damage

A woman lost her temper during an argument with her boyfriend and smashed a window.

Julie Jervis, 44, of Church Street, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to causing damage.

She was fined £80 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £30 victims’ surcharge.

Prosecutor, Jim Mowbray, said Jervis and her partner plus another friend became involved in an argument on November 9 at about 10pm.

Jervis threatened to smash things and kicked an already damaged television off its stand onto the floor, before breaking a window.

Steven Townley, defending, said Jervis her partner and the friend were drinking at the flat the defendant shared with her boyfriend.

She found £30 to £40 missing from her purse and a row started when neither of the men admitted responsibility for the missing money.

Jervis and her partner had continued to live together afterwards and she had paid £100 to get the window mended.

Warren Holden, 27, criminal damage

A man has made his first appearance in court accused of smashing shop windows valued at £40,000 in Blackpool.

Warren Holden is also alleged to have caused damage costing £600 to cars in the nearby area.

Holden, 27, of Woolman Road, South Shore, faces six charges of causing damage in the Talbot Road area of the resort between 4.45am and 5am on Saturday.

He is said to have broken windows valued at £20,000 at Machine Mart and £10,000 each at William Hill bookmakers and Bargain Booze, by throwing items through them.

Prosecutor, Martine Connah, asked for the case to be heard at crown court and objected to bail for Holden.

Defence lawyer, Steven Townley, said his client would not indicate pleas to the offences at that stage.

Holden was refused bail and remanded in custody towards his appearance at Preston Crown Court on March 7.
